As a retired faculty member who refused to apply for emerita status (multiple reasons!), I am always interested in open access materials. And the open access digital collection Independent Voices is an incredible resource!
The information page says that the collection contains nearly 20,000 items:
Independent Voices is an open access digital collection of alternative press newspapers, magazines and journals, drawn from the special collections of participating libraries. These periodicals were produced by feminists, dissident GIs, campus radicals, Native Americans, anti-war activists, Black Power advocates, Hispanics, LGBT activists, the extreme right-wing press and alternative literary magazines during the latter half of the 20th century.
I did a test search for "Tolkien" and got 160 results ranging from 1965 to 2011, all of which the program tells me I can access.
The Lord of the Rings got over 70,000 results, but only 47,289 are ones I can access, and there may be some false positives, but I can sort for “relevance” (there are articles from both Mallorn and Mythlore in the first/most relevant results).
*Dragging myself away to work on my ‘to do’ list, but WOW!
